What to Expect
Your child’s first ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) session is designed to feel warm, gentle, and inviting—more like a playdate than a traditional therapy session. At Soft Moon ABA, we believe the best progress begins with comfort, trust, and a little bit of magic.
During this first visit, the focus is on connection. Your child’s therapist will take time to build a positive and natural bond, often by joining your child in play. Whether it’s bubbles, toys, games, or favorite activities, your child is free to explore and lead the way. This process, known as “pairing,” helps your child begin to see their therapist as someone safe, fun, and exciting to be around.
You may notice that there is no pressure placed on your child to perform, speak, or follow instructions right away. That’s intentional. Every child is unique, and we move at a pace that feels right for them. Some children jump right in with smiles and laughter, while others take their time observing—and both are perfectly okay.
While the session may look playful on the surface, your therapist is thoughtfully observing and learning. They are noticing how your child communicates, what captures their interest, how they respond to new environments, and how best to support their individual needs. Every moment is purposeful, even the quiet ones.
Parents are an important part of this experience. You may be invited to share insights about your child’s routines, preferences, and goals, or simply sit nearby and watch the session unfold. This collaboration helps us create a personalized and supportive plan for your child’s growth.
Progress during the first session may be subtle, but it is meaningful. A smile, a moment of eye contact, or simply allowing the therapist to join in play are all beautiful first steps worth celebrating.
At its heart, the first ABA session is about building trust, creating a positive experience, and setting the tone for everything that follows. It’s a soft, supportive beginning—where your child is free to be themselves, and we meet them exactly where they are.
